Death Begets Life : While walking through the Lafayette Cemetery in the Garden District of New Orleans, I happened upon a gentleman getting ready for his wedding! I stuck around, trying not to impose, when I was rewarded by getting to meet the bride to be! This couple was very gracious and I cherish these images. I created this series as soon as I got home to Tucson. My Artist Statement regarding this body of work is as follows:

In all the many religions, life and death are approached with joy, sorrow, respect, regret, lament, and reverence. Cemeteries are sad, mournful, and painful for some. To others cemeteries provoke stillness, reverence, and a quiet peace. I am among the latter.

In my lifetime, I’ve experienced much loss- family, friends, and others dear to me. With each loss I’ve experienced, I wonder why the rest of the world hasn’t stopped to mourn as I have.

Cemeteries are a reminder that life goes on. In these images, taken at Lafayette Cemetery in the Garden District of New Orleans, I’ve attempt to pay homage to those who rest there and to demonstrate the fact that life waits for no one. As the tree completes its cycle it leaves behind its essence for new life. Death begets life.

South Carolina Cemeteries : While visiting South Carolina for my sister's wedding we had the opportunity to visit many of its old cemeteries. We had our very own tour guide for some of the better cemeteries, my new brother-in-law. The cemeteries are neglected and lots of the gravestones are broken and weather-worn. But if you look closely, you can still see the love and care that went into putting each of the lost loved ones to rest.

Ray and Tiffany : Tiffany and Ray married on a beautiful autumn evening, October 10, 2009, in front of friends and family, here in Tucson. The bride was as elegant as a 1920's starlet and the groom was as handsome as I've ever seen him! Their darling little Mia was a part of the ceremony and stole the show!
